Jepson 1893

Martin Jepson, born Mårten Jeppsson in Bolshög parish, and Anna Erika Olsson, of Allerum parish, were both raised in farming communities in rural Skåne, southern Sweden. Although they shared similar agricultural upbringings, their parishes lay nearly sixty miles apart, so their paths did not cross in Sweden.

In the 1890s, with limited opportunities in Sweden, each chose to leave independently. Martin emigrated in 1893 and Anna in 1896, joining the steady wave of Swedish migration drawn by the promise of stability and work in America.

They settled in Chicago, where a thriving Swedish community offered employment, familiar language, and shared traditions. It was there that they met, married, and began building a life together.

As first-generation immigrants, Martin and Anna undertook the decisive journey that carried them across the Atlantic in pursuit of security, opportunity, and a better future for those who followed.
