Thomas Alexander Fraser (1812–1882) and Anne (Fraser) Fraser (1817–1893)
Thomas Alexander Fraser was born in 1812 in Livingston County, New York, the son of Scottish immigrants who had already crossed the Atlantic in search of land and stability. Raised in an established farming community, he grew up in an area with little land availability and few opportunities to support a family.
Anne Fraser, born in 1817 in Inverness-shire, Scotland, grew up in a Highland tenant farming family. After her father died, limited prospects led Anne and her family to emigrate to Livingston County, where members of the extended Fraser family had settled. There, she and Thomas met and began their life together.
Soon after Thomas and Anne’s marriage in 1839, they moved to northern Illinois. Federal land and open prairie in Rutland Township, Kane County, provided opportunities for starting a farm. Their migration journey demonstrated deliberate decision-making and a commitment to establishing enduring stability for future generations.
